Sport Shop Assistant

Rate of Pay: $18.21 - $19.22/ hour

Job Summary:

Join Canlan Sports, a premier private-sector owner and operator of recreational sports complexes in North America, as a dynamic Sports Shop Assistant. This role involves providing exceptional service and sales in a friendly, organized environment.

Responsibilities:

- Implement shop opening and closing procedures diligently, based on shift requirements.
- Receive, store, and showcase products securely following established protocols.
- Demonstrate comprehensive product knowledge and participate in product knowledge seminars.
- Engage customers actively through greetings, maintaining a retail presence, and promoting sports shop products.
- Execute initiatives effectively using the ORION POS system and cash handling procedures.
- Develop and maintain skate sharpening skills and certification.
- Communicate customer questions, suggestions, or complaints to the Sports Shop Supervisor.
- Monitor stock levels and uphold cleanliness in the shop and inventory.
- Restock and maintain shop products on the sales floor as needed.
- Adhere to all Risk Management policies and procedures.
- Report any unsafe health & safety conditions promptly.
- Complete training in WHMIS, Workplace Violence, Emergency Plan, Incident Reports, and First Aid protocols.
- Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when necessary.
- Employ energy management best practices and minimize environmental impact.

Qualifications and Education:

  • High school education or equivalent completion.


Abilities, Attributes, and Experience:

  • Minimum one year of retail and/or customer service experience.
  • Flexibility in working hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Strong hockey and/or skating knowledge.
  • Proficient skate sharpening skills.
  • Prior experience with cash handling via a POS system is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Professional appearance with a positive demeanor.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Organized, punctual, and articulate.
